Baby Fairweather

IT’S A BOY!

Earlier this week Colin and his partner Kate, discovered they are expecting a boy in early December time. Congratulations from your other boys Fraser and Matthew.

Pro’s Tournaments

This week pro shop staff member Fraser Johnston was playing the Scottish Young Professional Championship at West Lothian. Fraser made the cut and ended up in a tie for 26th position which is a decent finish considering he didn’t have his best game. This Monday, Fraser also competed in a qualifier for the Deer Park Masters where he managed to claim one of the spots that were available for the main tournament which takes place at the start of August.

Hopefully, Fraser and Matthew can find their best game this weekend and have a go at one of the four spots available for the Scottish Open.

Scottish Open Qualifier

We are delighted to once again host the ASI Scottish Open Qualifier. This weekend there will be a field of 144 competitors playing for the top four spots that are available for Qualifying into the Scottish Open at Renaissance Club. This is one of many events in recent years that Longniddry has held and is great for the club to have this event and many thanks to all the members who have volunteered to help over the weekend.

Come down and see some very good golf and give the professional shop team your support out on the course!

Thank you to Vice President Peter Lowe and all the members who have volunteered to sand and seed the fairways prior to the qualifying for the Scottish Open.

This has been a big preparation for the course not only for this event but also for the members who can enjoy the course for the remainder of the season!

A date for your diary

Member's Scottish Open Competition

On Monday 8th July we have arranged to run a stableford to allow the members to play the same set up as the pros. This medal will run all day, which is a stableford medal with an entry fee of £2.50. This is a great opportunity to play its course at its best.

Putting Things Right

Sometimes, it's the most obvious things that get overlooked. When it comes to golf, the club most used in a round is a putter so surely it's the part of the game that deserves most attention?

We know this isn't a reality for many, but a combination of working hard on your stroke and having a putter that is suited to your stroke type will certainly improve your chances on the greens - two things that this promotion is all about.

Latest Update

I hope that you will all agree that the golf course is in fantastic condition, with the greens running true and improving week after week! With more staff now available we are working hard to catch up on the jobs that have not been completed as a result of staff shortages.

This week the main task for the greens staff will be keeping on top of the greens and fairways, along with keeping the tees tidy. A big thanks to Stephen Barber and the team for the hard work that has been put in over the last few weeks in difficult circumstances.

Rule of the week

Limit of 14 Clubs; Sharing, Adding or Replacing Clubs During Round

Limit of 14 Clubs a player must not:
- Start a round with more than 14 clubs, or
- Have more than 14 clubs during the round.

If the player starts a round with fewer than 14 clubs, he or she may add clubs during the round up to the 14-club limit.

When the player becomes aware that he or she is in breach of this Rule by having more than 14 clubs, the player must immediately take the excess club or clubs out of play:
- If the player started with more than 14 clubs, he or she may choose which club or clubs will be taken out of play.
- If the player added excess clubs during the round, those added clubs are the ones that must be taken out of play.

After a player’s round has started, if the player picks up another player’s club that was left behind, or a club is mistakenly put in the player’s bag without his or her knowledge, the club is not treated as one of the player’s clubs for purposes of the 14-club limit (but it must not be used).

A classic piece of golfing attire is the club crested shirt, which is something we're able to offer you thanks to our friends at Glenmuir.

They've been creating stylish golf clothing since 1891 and specialise in the art of cresting; so much so that the European Ryder Cup team used them for every event between 1987 and 2014.

Well, their current range is an excellent combination of traditional designs with subtle detailing for that added bit of flair - like the hexagonal print detail on the Haddington's chest (fuchsia polo here).

Are you focusing on the wrong thing?

As soon as the ball has left the putter face, we know whether it’s going to be good or not. It’s like a sixth sense, right? But what constitutes a good putt? Many golfers let the final outcome decide this – i.e. whether the ball ends up in the hole or not – but that is arguably well out of our control. So, perhaps it's time to refocus on what we can control?

There are only two things we can really control when it comes to putting. The first is starting the ball on the correct line. Take Tiger Woods for example; the 15-time major winner focuses on a blade of grass he wants the ball to roll over immediately in front of him, which brings the intended target much closer to impact.

The second is getting the ball rolling correctly, which means imparting top spin as quickly as possible after impact rather than having it jumping and skidding in the air.

One way to control our putting is by utilising the technology in Lynx's fantastic Prowler putters.
