Pro's news

On The Tour

On the European Tour, American Kurt Kitayama won the Oman Open with a great comeback over the last 9 holes. The American won with a score of 7 under par and won by 1 shot to claim the first prize of 256,000 euros. This is a great break through win for Kitayama and could kick start his 2019 season.

On the PGA Tour, Keith Mitchell claimed his first win at the Honda Classic by birdieing the 72nd hole. It was very impressive golf down the stretch from the young American to hold off the big names like Brooks Koepka and Rickie Fowler. Mitchell won with a score of 9 under par.

It is nice to see these players playing some challenging courses on both tours this week and it shows they can struggle just like we do every weekend!

Club Captain - Keith Bowman

How long have you been a member of Longniddry?
14 years since 2005. First year as a 5 day member until I could get full membership. Joined from Royal Musselburgh.

Handicap?
6 and determined to buck the trend that as Captain it is supposed to go up so Colin how is your diary looking to give me some lessons?

Best golfing memory?
Many memories from getting my first set of second hand clubs (Slazenger Plus) for Christmas when I was 14 through to watching Seve at the 1980 Open at Muirfield, watching 1992 European Solhiem Cup Win at Dalmahoy to watching Payne Stewart at Royal St Georges at the 93 Open. Also enjoyed marshalling at various events in East Lothian.

Favourite golf course you have ever played?
Loch Lomond.

Best shot ever hit?
Hope I haven’t hit it yet. Always hoping the next one will be the best ever.

What clubs do you use?
I have become a TaylorMade tart from Driver to pitching wedge. Cleveland wedges 52, 56 & 60 and a PING putter.

If you could pick three dinner guests who would they be?
My wife and two kids. I have to say that don’t I? I’m a shy person so sitting with strangers, no matter how famous, would be stressful. Be great to be able to dine with my late Grandparents and listen to their stories.

Favourite restaurant?
Ugly Grouper Bar & Grill, Anna Maria Island, Florida

Favourite film?
I go to the cinema every week. Far too many to mention but if you need a stock answer, Caddyshack.

Favourite hole at Longniddry and why?
10th. Tough hole regardless of wind direction and extremely photogenic. Never tire of the Scots Pine. Almost cathedral like.

Rule of the week

5 Key Rule Changes For 2019

1. Drop from knee height (NOT shoulder height)
2. Time to search – 3 minutes (NOT 5 minutes)
3. No penalty for a double hit – it only counts as one stroke
4. No penalty if your ball strikes the flagstick when you have chosen to leave it in the hole
5. Unplayable ball in bunker – extra option to drop outside the bunker for 2 penalty strokes

Spotlight: Mizuno ST190 drivers

With two driver models to choose from in Mizuno's range, there's one key question that needs to be answered:

Forgiveness or adjustability?

If you're wanting maximum forgiveness we'd start by looking at the ST190, which has a fixed backweight for increased stability. If you have a specific miss (a slice for most club golfers) then we would look at setting up the ST190G to counteract that bad shot.
