Scottish Golf Tourism Week

I'm currently staying in Fairmont along with club manager Bob Gunning. We are away this week to talk to tour operators about Longniddry GC. This is part of the Scottish Golf Tourism week, this is where we show different Tour Operators what we offer here at Longniddry Golf Club.

I and Bob have been speaking to different Tour Operators from all over the world showing them what facilities we have.

Coaching news

Club Golf

Matt has been running the Club Golf scheme this season, it has been a success with lots of new children trying golf for the first time. Many have also returned to later classes. Overall it has been a great learning experience and has been fun.

We have managed to run multiple weekly classes along with summer and October camps. Hopes for next year would be that the numbers will increase and having more opportunities to promote the coaching academy.

Throughout the winter we will be running a girls get together once a month. This is to get more girls involved with the game and it would be a bit of fun and competition for those who come along. The intention is to also build up a bigger ladies and girl junior section.

New In The Shop This Week

Currently the sale rack has all adidas clothing with a 50% OFF all items. Come have a look and grab yourself a bargain.

Also in the shop we have a variety of Longniddry Logo apparel ranging from FootJoy and Asbri which we have in shirts, overlays, jackets, headwear and mitts.

Out Of Office

Over the weekend, we started looking into how many players turned up for their tee time. We found that many people did not turn up which meant a tee time was wasted.

If you do not wish to play on a certain day please don’t hesitate to contact the professional shop to either take your name out or cancel the whole time. This will allow someone who is struggling for a tee time to go out and enjoy the course.

Rules section

Lost Ball - New Ruling for 2019

Reduced time for ball search: A ball is lost if not found in three minutes (rather than the current five minutes) after you begin searching for it.

• There will be a reduced time from previous years from 5 to now 3 minutes for searching for your ball.
• If you cannot find your ball it must be declared lost once the three minutes is up and you must take the right form of ruling for your next shot. This can be either a drop or a three off the tee.

Competition news

Christmas Fun Event

Saturday the 22nd of December the Professional Shop will be running a Christmas Turkey Trot Competition.

The Christmas Turkey Trot is a bit of fun and the rules are as follows. You can dress in a Christmas jumper on any clothing fit for the festive season. It’s an individual event and is only open to member of Longniddry Golf Club.

Winter is coming, but we know that won't prevent you avid golfers getting out on the course to face biting winds, muddy shoes and, most of all, rain. Lots and lots of rain. What do you take from this?

As golfers, there's nothing more satisfying than a shot which is perfectly executed - even if it is a rare occurrence for many of us. It could be a booming drive which splits the fairway down the middle, or maybe a wedge shot which stops dead, two feet away from the hole. In fact, when you consider how often we use our wedges during a round of golf - see the graph below - the latter is something that we should all be striving to achieve.

So, what do you take from the graph above? In our eyes, it highlights just how important your short game is. We see a lot of you spending time hitting balls on the range, which is great, but don't neglect the less glamorous side of the game when practising - it's where your score is 'made'.

We can't stress the benefits of having wedges that are suited to every aspect of your game either.
